Project overview

Cluster 1 in Mua, Taveuni is FISOFA's first demonstration model for sustainable organic agroforestry, farmer training, native reforestation, and traceable value-chain development. The project combines short-term food and income crops with medium-term cash crops and long-term tree crops.

• Short-term crops — Dalo, chili, ginger, turmeric and other crops providing early income and food security.
• Medium-term crops — Banana, moringa, and other crops providing recurring harvests and supporting value-added production.
• Long-term crops — Cacao, Liberica coffee, kava, native trees, and selected forestry species creating long-term economic and environmental value.

Cluster 1 demonstrates drone mapping, LiDAR surveys, land-use zoning, biomass baselines, watershed identification, tree tagging, harvest records, and traceable supply chains in practice.

Local employment, farmer training, improved crop diversity, soil and water protection, long-term income opportunities, agro-tourism potential, value-added production, market access, native reforestation, and environmental monitoring.
